Malware Found on Laptops Given to Children in England
In the UK, laptops given to schoolchildren as part of the "Get Help with Technology" pilot program were found to contain malware. The computers were distributed with the goal of supporting vulnerable children during lockdown, but they were infected with viruses, supposedly connected to several Russian servers.
According to the Department for Education, fewer than 10 schools had reported the issue, because the virus was neutralized by the preinstalled antivirus software. The UK government has promised to deliver 1.3 million devices to children in England, who are unable to take online classes because they don't have computers.
Humans Won't Be Able to Control Artificial Intelligence
Some people believe that artificial intelligence (AI) will never be able to outsmart humans because there is no way for machines to understand high-level concepts like beauty or humor. While it is true that AI may not be able to understand some concepts, the real danger is that humans may not be able to control AI.
According to Manuel Cebrian, a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, supervising autonomous machines may prove to be a very difficult task. While super-intelligent robots have the potential to make our lives easier, they could also complicate it, because they may not be that easy to manage.
What is IIoT? The Industrial Internet of Things Primer
The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is a new concept which involves industrial machines, data, and software. It consists of a network of devices used for industrial applications, allowing companies to connect their machines to the web, gathering, processing, and sharing data, which can then be analyzed for further insights.
By making use of IIoT, enterprises can improve the efficiency and reliability of their operations, while reducing the need for qualified human personnel. Companies that implement Industrial Internet of Things-based systems can also benefit from access to additional data, creating new business models and revenue sources.More Info
The Century-long Quest for Worldwide Wireless Power
There is a strong reason why Nikola Tesla is considered one of the greatest inventors of all time: his inventions were years ahead of their time. One such invention was the wireless transmission of electricity; Tesla said it would eventually be used to power homes, as well as provide wireless communication.
While Tesla didn't live to see his invention become reality, we are making progress in our quest for worldwide wireless power. The Verge traveled to Wardenclyffe, the experimental wireless transmission station which was designed and built by the inventor on Long Island in 1901–1902, to check out the remains of his lab.
Artificial Intelligence Will Shape Our Future
Although we may be at the forefront of this tech wave, there is no denying that, unlike earlier waves, artificial intelligence is on the brink of affecting nearly every aspect of our society. According to Oberlo, the global AI industry is expected to reach $267 billion by 2027.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere these days, from smart phones to smart cars, smart fridges, and smart medical diagnostics equipment. According to experts, the technology is already permeating our daily lives. This has a lot to do with the fact that people want to keep pace with new developments in technology and tend to use the latest tools which will help make their lives easier.
Beginner's Guide to the Internet of Things
If you have taken a peek into the Internet of Things (IoT), you might be tempted to start thinking about replacing your home or office gadgets with their smarter, Internet-connected versions. Before doing that, my recommendation is to read at least a few IoT-related articles. In fact, that's the very reason why I have decided to put together this Beginner's guide to the IoT.
Things may seem quite simple on the surface: you connect smart devices - intelligent lightbulbs, for example - to the Internet, and then you can control them remotely, using a dedicated app that's been installed on your smartphone. It is an easy to grasp concept, but it's taken it a long time to reach critical mass.
Effective Tips to Boost Wireless Signal Strength
With all the modern technologies in our lives, it is getting harder and harder to avoid using wireless devices. And with all these new devices that are added to our home networks comes a severe problem: weak Wi-Fi signals. According to George Hardesty, CEO at Data Alliance, modern home routers can support up to 200 devices, but people who want to use over 20 clients should choose a mesh network.
So, how do you get your Wi-Fi back up and running at full speed? A mesh is definitely the best solution, but there are a few things that you can try before investing a few hundred dollars in new hardware.
1. Update your router.
Best Tips to Protect Your Computer Data
When you shop for a new computer, be sure to choose a device that has features which can protect your privacy and make it harder for hackers to access your personal data. According to Statista, the number of ransomware attacks has reached 190 million in 2019, and hackers continue to develop increasingly smarter malware.
Online criminals can be highly creative when they want to break into your system, so you need to be very careful anytime you connect your computer to the Internet. Just do a search online for "top computer security threats" and you will get an idea of the types of online dangers that are most likely to target you. I don't want to scare you, of course.
